Custom Air Intake

So today while in the parts store getting bulbs for my brake and dome lights, I saw the ad for the build-your-own air intake system from Spectre. It really caught my attention and so I had a couple of questions about it. Since I'm the only guy I know who really deals in Toyotas I figured I'd go ahead and ask you guys. First off is Spectre very reputable? I mean I've never heard of them until today. And second, what parts and part sizes would I need to build my own custom intake for my 95 T? Its a 3.4. Thanks everybody any help is appreciated.

Just curious, why not buy a ready made kit from K&N or whoever? BTW I have a K&N and they just seem to make things loud and high pitched.

Haha well I'll tell you why. See the cheapest I could find a K&N was around 305 dollars give or take. The Spectre on the other hand, was varying in price depending. The most expensive individual part I saw was 60 bucks. And since I'm unemployed at the moment it was the cheaper route for me to take lol. You're not the only one I've heard say that about K&N though. It probably is the same with all the others too but its one of those things where I'd do it just to have one basically.

Having had one, (bought truck with) I am replacing it with factory. The factory stuff I ordered was missing the gasket between the MAF sensor and the air cleaner box, so for now I am running factory tube with resonator (which seems to have quieted down the thing well enough) and the K&N cone filter. If you wanna do that, the cone filter plugs right into the MAF and you dont really need the pipe. Its a little smoother I guess, but the difference can hardly be worth it. You would have to get or make one bracket to connect the MAF sensor to the block or something, cause the airbox holds it up.

Hey, since were talking about it, just behind the airbox on the wheel well, there is a bolt hole that K&N uses to mount a bracket for holding the heat shield. Does your truck have anything mounted to that bolt hole? its about 2 or 3 inches from the passenger most side of the filter box about 1/2 an inch back. Thanks.

You know I'm not completely sure. I'll get back with you on that one tomorrow when I put my engine dress kit on it. I appreciate the info though bud helps out a lot.

Okay I'm looking right now at what I think you're talking about. Looks like an empty bolt hole. There's another one 2 or 3 inches behind it and then in between those about 3 inches towards the drivers side I have a bracket with some kind of electronic plug that goes to the mass air.

The battery fer the 2.7L engine is on the same side as the 3.4L engine (left). The stock air box is the same fer the 2.7L and 3.4L engine T-100 trucks. The battery hold down/engine bay fuse box support fer the 3.0 is a separate bracket that's welded onto the wheel well and wouldn't be on there unless that part was replaced from a 1993/94 T-100.
