wiper switch doesnt work

hey im new i searched the sight for a thread asking this question before i posted it but couldnt find anything ..i just bought a 93 pickup ext cab 4x4... when i bought it the lights didnt work and the previous owner had the wipers on a toggle switch drilled into the dash. i figured out the light switch was bad the lights work great now, hooked the wiper up to the factory switch but the wipers no matter what dont want to run off of the colum switch. but they work fine off of the goofy toggle on the dash ( only one speed ) its not the switch not a fuse anyone else ever have this problem???

You can troubleshoot the OEM switch using the documentation at:

Sounds to me like the column switch is bad and should be replaced.

having the same problem...bought a 94 same deal as you, but thank God the meth-head PO didnt try to rig up any wipers...i just replaced the headlight switch assy and i have a good wiper motor... as long as i dont hook it up to the arms it'll run all day... i'm not sure of the auto-reset(or whatever its called when the wipers reset back to starting position when you turn the ign switch) and what position i should manually pull the rods to to where it'll function properly?.seems like once it does the reset it wont move from there...??? any ideas

ok, so i figured out my problem...nothing to do with the wiper motor or switch... after getting extremely frustrasted from takin apart and putting back together, I noticed that the wiper posts were painted a different color from the truck...after further inspection i found someone had drilled different mounting holes in the cowl...they were close to stock but not quite right....as close as i can tell, someone had swapped in a motor and rods from an 84-88 model...which is really close but not quite close enough it seems...thank goodness for spare parts!!! i swapped in a correct set of rods and late model wiper motor and presto...wipers work perfect....never underestimate what some people will attempt to fix a problem...
