Hi all, still working on my project truck and still having no success. It is still a 1990 3.0 v6 4x4 and I still dont have any spark. Have tested retested and re-re tested everything under the hood and it all checks out good except just found that the VAF does not check out to specs. My question is can a bad VAF cause a no spark situation. We have tested everything else with the multimeter and it all tests good just the VAF, and as this is my first toyota and I am still in the learning phase I was hoping that someone might know if this is possible. Thanks in advance.

 

Do you mean the AFM??

I would have to sit down and check but I would think it could cause your issue.

 

Thanks for all the help with this project, it is possible that I may have got the wrong name but the "VAF" is the air flow sensor on the air box if I am not wrong. That is the part that tested bad. Again thank you.

 

That won't cause no spark to my knowledge. That measures air density and helps measures air/fuel ratio I believe. It will fire with a bad one but run like crap. Start from the plugs and work backwards. Test plugs in a different motor if you have to. There is even a nifty little test light they make specially for the plug boots real cheap. Then test coil packs with volt meter.

 

Thanks for your reply. I wish it was that easy, I have tested that and everything else down the line from there. So far this is the only part that is bad and I have heard that if it shorts out it could cause that. As it is quite an expensive part I would like to find out for sure, I still need to replace the bad one and if it fixes the problem I will let you all know. Thanks again for all the replies

 

Wyoyodder. Can you please respond and post the solution to your problem? I seem to be in the same situation as you are at this point. I put all of my engien back together after a rebuild and.. no spark. I've checked everything, and everything seems to be within spec except the VAFM. I am getting one wrong reading, a 0 ohms between Es and Vb, it's supposed to be between 200 and 400 ohms.
