Since your the only one who's experienced the hi-pro..... is it worth the money, any engine should run more efficiently/responsive with fresh components, compared to stock is the hi-pro a relative difference, have you had a healthy factory 3VZ you can justifiably compare to? I realize it won't be a a powerhouse, but for that price and the reliability(contrary to some), that's great considering my top-end rebuild with heads machined ran me approx. $1,500 self labor except heads!

CHS Machine Company OR MotorCrate Soundoff

This thread is relatively fresh...any one on here have any experience that could be shared regarding the 190hp 3.0 3vze from either CHS or MotorCrate???

I agree with some 3.0 owners that a stock for near-stock swap would be nice for the budget and performance if 190hp is attainable from this rebuild.

My budget is roughly $3000 total, which makes the 3.4L swap not doable but this 3.0L plausible if it will truly be worth it. It's easy to just say "3.4L swap", but I'm looking for someone who is using this 190hp 3.0L.

Thank you for any input!

How is a 3.4L swap not doable with $3000?! I am net $1000 into my 3.4 swap on my 87 4Runner! And that includes a BUNCH of brand new OEM parts.

werd.

I think you can buy a engine, harness, and computer w/ low miles for around 1,200 here. Its easily doable if you're looking to do an instant swap. ( no cleaning, or tune up on the engine. just simple drop in and go )

DeathCougar, you are undoubtedly a badass judging by your name and attitude. I would like input regarding any users of the 3.0L as indicated by the post.

My '93 is a manual making finding a complete engine/accessory setup difficult as they are more rare than an auto setups. Ones I have found have over around 170-230k miles on them for $1500-2000 alone. This doesn't include any rebuild parts or labor, e.g. timing belt, water pump, O2 sensors, harness adaptor, etc... I could buy a remanufactured 3.4L engine, then piecemeal the accessories, but that is less than ideal for harness/ECU related issues. Although, I should be good so long as the ECU is from a manual, but then will I have all the mounting brackets and other niceieties to worry about.

I'm open for any specific input you can provide me to help me have a 3.4L installed with my AC working for under or around $3000. Please PM me. Thanks!

If any one has a 3.4L swappable setup for a manual, preferrable from a '96-98 with low miles, PM me. I'm also interested in T100 and Tacoma 3.4L engines. Thank you!

know this is an old thread but was thinking about going the same way and doing some research and saw this on the BBB website it shows they got a D out of A-F with most of there complaints about problems with product/ service and warranty issues http://www.bbb.org/oregon/business-r...nd-or-35001062

Hello all,

My 3VZE at 218,000 has blown. Coolant was pouring out all over the drivers side of the engine and all over the street.
I'm not so sure what that problem could be but I'm guessing it's the head gasket.

So I have now decided to replace my broken engine for the Hi-Pro engine.
I will also be buying thorley headers, borla muffler, and some hi-flow cat.

I have a few questions in no particular order.

-How many quarts of oil would this engine take?
-What kind of oil should I put in? and how often should I change it?
-Which parts will I keep from my current engine?
-Which parts will I replace?

I have used search terms such as: 3.0 rebuild parts list, header install, etc.

I have my vafm leaned 2 clicks, should I leave it as that? or return it to stock?

Sorry for the bombardment

Drivers side. Coolant lines at top of engine going into throttle body, and coolant lines at bottom of engine going into oil cooler. Check those first.

Also, do yourself a favor and do a 3.4 swap!

Look up toy only swaps and offroad solutions.

Also look up the 3.4 swap section on yotatech.

I bought one in April

From chc machine or raptor engines, they have so many names for whatever reason. To me I woulda have rather rebuilt my old one even though u do have a slight power difference. Def not worth 2 grand, cheap internals, not an oem oil pump like they promised, it was cheap gasket sets and cheap oil pump, cheap pistons,, I was pissed

Thank you for sharing. Said it several times -- the only way they can sell engines w/ those power specs for that price is cheap, likely Chinese made internals and probably heads too... Yes, they have a warranty, but that warranty won't save you from the safety/inconvenience of engine problems. Nor does the warranty cover the removal and install of the new engine. Not even sure if it includes the freight shipping of engines to/from. Nor do we know how well these folks stand behind their engines in the warranty dept and how long their inspection period is/your downtime before they'll have a replacement engine to you...

For about the same cost, you can get the same or greater power from a bone stock 5vzfe, and add $1k and you get a fully rebuilt 5vzfe... And arguably have big gains in reliability too -- most 5vzfe swaps report small gains in fuel economy too...
stock 5vzfe being 190 HP, 220 ftlbs torque
vs stock 3vze being 150 HP and 180 ft lbs torque
vz Raptor claiming 190 HP and 210 ftlbs torque

FWIW, while DOA has had a lot of complaints about quality and not delivering what they're selling, their prices are spot on for what one should expect to pay for power-built 3vze w/ OEM+ quality components (probably knock $1.5 to 2k off all packages for basic assembly cost that a home mechanic DIY job that farms out the precision machining should expect to pay): http://doaracingengines.com/6-cylind...ne/v6-engines/

$4750 for rebuilt 175 HP longblock.
$8250 for rebuilt 185 HP longblock
$8650 for rebuilt 205 HP longblock
$9100 for rebuilt 225 HP longblock.

RE: the 190 Hi-Pro 3vze engine:

I'm glad I found this post. I have a 1989 4Runner that I just pulled the 3vze from and was considering the Portland, Oregon PMC 190 Hi-Pro engine. I also have a 5vzfe out of a '00 4Runner, complete drive train, frame and all, the whole damn thing minus body. The Hi-Pro just sounded easier to do since I'm not sure I wanted to go through the headache of swapping in the 5vzfe. But, maybe I better think this over some. Thanks for the post. Good comments.

Rebuilt 3.0L 3VZE 1990 4Runner 5 speed tranny

I had my 2nd owner 3VZE rebuilt by a certified engine builder. After 5000 mi, so far so good. New Toy cams, pistons, rings. No more CAT. Running good so far.
My motor has 310230 mi I have the 150R manual transmission.
Stick with OEM or used OEM parts whenever possible. Do not go aftermarket fluids or parts unless absolutely necessary. Or you WILL be spending twice the money to replace junk afternarket
bearings, or plug wires or whatever. Most important is proper mix Toyota OEM coolant, and lubricants that don't dry up and evaporate,
