Minimum needed to power starter
Hello all, newb here with newb questions. I recently picked up a 87 turbo 4runner that needs a header, turbo and associated plumbing to get running again. About the only thing installed on the motor is intake manifold so pretty much every electrical connection from the ignition to all of that is well, not connected.
I want to compression test the engine to see if I really should have it rebuilt before I buy and install the exhaust side just to have to tear it all down again.
My problem so far is: after charging the battery I can't seem to get any power to the starter, just the small click behind the dash when i turn the key. I'm having a mulitmeter shipped to me so without that I am left wondering if the starter is bad or it just wont be allowed to crank without the magic circuit being completed from somewhere downstream or where ever. It is an auto trans and I did try in both park and neutral.
