Heater control illumination bulb replacement

I am a new member and have owned Toyotas since 1980 and bought one of the first 4runner SR5s in the States in '85 and I need help on how to replace the illumination bulbs for the heater controls on my 2004 4runner limited with the navigation system. I ordered and received a new bulb, but am having difficulty getting at the back of the switch. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Most the dash may need to come apart to get to the back of the control. Not to sure with the newer runners but i wouldnt doubt that you need to pull most the dash out to get to it.

Welcome BTW

Hi. I have the same problem. Light out in the heater fan control. I took off the knobs, pried off the plate. Tiny bulbs in there. But I don't know how to get them out. Did you ever succeed? Do I need to remove the whole panel and remove the bulbs from the rear? I looked into the manual and couldn't figure it out. WOuld appreciate any help. Mine is a '04 Pickup. Thanks.

Nope. For the '04, you remove the knobs (pull-off), then pry the face plate off (should pull off easily with fingers in the open holes left from the knobs). Then there's three screws that you remove, and the switches panel can be removed. You'll carefully move it to one side, and the other side is now cleared. Pull it slowly forward, and reach behind and unplug two wiring harnesses from the rear. Then the whole switch panel can be pulled out. There's a black "cover" on the back that snaps off. From there, you can access the tiny (really tiny) bulbs. They twist about 1/8 turn, and pull out from behind.

NOW - if I could only find replacement bulbs. I guess I have to go to the dealer for that. Nobody at my auto parts place ever saw bulbs this little.
