Smile hey all, 22re help

hey all, I'm new to the site, I love it I have learned a lot on here already just reading the posts. Just want to introduce myself a little I'm a 19 year old college student. I'm getting to 4 wheelin cause I love offroad and have been riding and working on dirtbikes my whole life but I got into an accident 5 months ago and broke my leg lost blood flow and almost lost it so I decided to get a toyota truck I have want too have years well I figure now would be a good time.

My truck is an 81 toyota shortbed 4x4 with a 22re swapped in from the last owner. I did research and thought it was a good deal for 1300. I wanted soild axle and fuel injection so I went with it.

I have a few questions, is there a way to take the serial number on the block and find out what the engine tranny and t case came out of?

And I'm in the middle of replacing the timing components. It down to the block I'm wait for my timing kit from engnbldr.com to come in, my other question is what's the one wire connector on top of the thermostat for?

Any answer or imput on the truck or deal would be cool and appreciated. Thanks all

Updated: also I have the oil pan off and I want to repaint it. I'm sure some of you guys have done it, anyone recommend a brand of spray paint to use? Or your experience with painting it.

Thanks everyone.

so does anyone know what the electrical connector on top of the thermostat housing is? Or about the serial number on the block and tracking it to what it came out of?

Update on the oil pan, I got some gloss black engine enamel. I've never spray painted any engine parts so this should be interesting. I might do my vavle cover too.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks 92 toy, If I was at home I'd go take one and post it. I will later if need be. I thought It was coolant temp but then I found that the green connector to left of the head was so it has me stumped.

2 problems.

1)I, myself don't have a picture.

2)I do believe, and I could be wrong, there are differences between years of 22re engines. small, but in your case, could be the difference in identifying something.

I think there are some small differences too. That's why I'm trying to find a way of take my serial number from the block and finding out what it came out of.
