head unit not functioning

i was working on installing a sony head unit in a 1987 4runner and i got it hooked up and working with the front speakers. i took it out and started putting on splices for the rear speakers. when i reattached the cd player it would no longer power up the display or anything, but it will take a cd and eject it as well. any ideas or help is appreciated

Sounds like constant power is still there. Check the ignition wire going to the head unit. The unit will still take CDs and eject them with the constant power attached.

If you want, take a spare wire and run it from the positive on the battery and hook it directly to the yellow wire coming from the Sony. Or simply run a little jumper wire from the red wire to the yellow one and see if it turns on.

red: constant power
yellow: ignition

Check your cigarette lighter, does it work?
IF NOT: Change your cigarette lighter fuse.
The head unit gets it's power through that fuse and loom of wire..
