Dual Batt Isolator: what should the 'Exciter' terminal be hooked to?
I'm doing up a dual-battery setup on my '85 pickup. Got a marine deep cycle for the aux battery and have it setup nicely, now I just need to tackle the isolator.
I bought a Sure 9532A isolator w/ 4 terminals on the basis of their chart ("Toyota / Japanese Import w/ internal regulator on alt"). I'm a little mystified by the 'E' (aka "Exciter" I think) terminal. What should I hook that to? What is it for?
I've got a wiring harness coming off the alternator. Besides the fat-red main current wire off the alternator, my wiring harness includes a white wire, a yellow wire a black wire, and a thin red wire. Should I splice into one of these?
Thanks for any tips, Seth.

It hooks to one of the 3 wires that plug into the alternator. I forgot which one it is, green rings a bell as far as color. but please make sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dont cut something without being 100%. Search this forum for dual battery setup, i know i have a write up. and this question was asked by someone else in that thread, maybe you can pm them for the answer

Hey, thanks for the reply, as you said... isolators are a bit on the side of boring, so I appreciate it.
I think this is the thread you're referring to:

I've been hunting through the archives (and your thread of course), and I still haven't figured out which wire to attach to. The Sure Power instructions say the wire labelled "IGN", but unfortunately, my harness/alternator has no label. I've looked at the factory service manual, and again, no obvious help.
Anyone got a doc on this? Or anyone using a four post terminal willing to pop their hood and check which wire on their alternator harness is going to the exciter terminal?

Grab a volt meter or test light and find a wire. I think I used one off the alternator connector that turns on and off with the ignition. But there are lots of wires that do the same under the hood:
