Am I attempting to wire my trailer harness correctly?
I have almost gotten my trailer wiring correct except the trailer lights don't come on with the tail lights.
I was thinking that I need to run the brake AND the tail light wires to the one brown wire for the tail lights of the trailer. Well, I tried this and I blew the tail light fuse, probably when I attempted to depress the brake pedal but I am not sure about that.
Anyway, am I attempting to wire this correctly to get dim trailer brake lights when the tail lights are on and get brighter when the brakes are pressed? Or do I need either the tail light or brake light to come on but not both? Thanks!
EDIT: It's also possible that I shorted the wire out too because my test connections weren't the greatest. I just want to make sure I am attempting to do this correctly.

I have to put a tail light converter on my 4 Runner... It was a seperate wire for ur brakes... If u put the tail light and brake light together, everytime u hit ur brakes ur parking lights will come on..

X2. If your brake and turn signals are a separate bulb or a dual filament bulb, you need a converter. You can pick up any converter out there and make it work.

Ahh, okay the lightbulb in my head just came on. I see what the problem is. I do have a separate turn and brake lights. Are the converters available just about anywhere trailer wiring is sold?

Yup. You can buy the one made for your truck and it will just plug in. You can get a universal one and tap it in. Or you can get one for a different truck, cut the plugs off, then tap that in (this is what I did). No matter what you do though, make sure you have a converter.
