Hi guys , i have a charging issue here that has me preplexed hopefully i can get some good insight here , my console lit up last year indicating a dead battery , i replaced it and lights went out , a week later my new battery died , replaced my battery and alternator , went and had it checked but the moron at the shop did it while it was not running and i insisted on it running during the test , killed my battery again , got another one and went to an auto parts store they tested it properly and it indicated the regulator was bad on a brand new alternator......replaced the regulator and it tested bad again......so here is my dilema........what could be the problem i need help on this on , my car is a 1984 toyota corolla diesel engine no turbo.....i've been told it could possibly be a battery cable issue......any ideas would be greatly appereciated.......thank you

Do you own a Multimeter if not time to buy one!!!!

I am guessing this has a separate voltage regulator and is not built into the alternator Correct??

Quite possible any of the connections is corroded you might not be able to see with your naked eye .

Plus you might get a good reading with the meter

A poor ground poor battery terminal connections battery cables

You need to figure out just is not working.

Poor quality rebuilds

 

I have gotten bad rebuilt alternators right out of the box at one time or another at all the big name stores. Find a shop that rebuilds them correctly the first time. Clean and check all connections, Corrosion can pass a Continuity check but still not let enough current to pass. A lesson I learned the hard way.
