I am putting back together a 1986 22re 4x4 and the PO has this wire tucked up by the fender not attached to anything. Can someone tell me where this wire connects and what it does? Its that black wire that comes out of that little black box. The wire circled in red..
It comes off that little box up on the drivers inside fender wall.
That is your stock Alternator-battery "B" wire. P.O. may have disconnected it and replaced with thicker wire.
Make sure the other end is not connected to anything, either. Better yet, find out how the alt stud terminal (B) is connected to the fuse block or battery positive, and remove that and the "box"
The box is merely a disconnect block - pointless in my view.. I removed that and replaced my "B" wire this way: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post52242061

The PO didnt have this wire connected and had cut the female plastic black connection that plugs into the back of the alternator. There are wires cut just hanging out all over on that side of the motor
Is this Alternator-battery "B" wire the wire that connects to the stud on the Alternator? In this truck the wire is a thick white wire
yes I see what he has done. The PO just willey nilley spliced different colored wires on the harness and had a later alternator installed. He spliced in the correct later year plug for the later year alternator. a 92 alternator I think. This is an 86 which is a totally different plug. He had the ground wire spliced with a white wire and the wire "B" wire spliced with a black wire. Man what a mess
I would remove that original "B" wire to have more room. Then clean up the wiring even more. First-gen and second-gen 4runners have similar charging circuit. Just match the IG, S, L and B wires between the two.
