12V Switching Wire??

I'm trying to hook up my oil and voltmeter gauges. Does anyone know which wire to tap for a switching 12V+? Either the ignition wire or behind the radio?? What color are they? I have a 2000 4runner. Thanks

Get a volt meter or test light and probe the fuse block for a wire that gets hot with the ignition on. Otherwise, find a copy of a Factory Service Manual for the 2000 model and check the wiring diagrams (usually a good idea to test the wire for voltage even if you know the color). If your cigarette lighter turns on and off with the key, you can tap that power wire as well.

Cig lighter is probably the easiest to use, with regards to not having to use a meter. Think they are generally ignition switched. Or you could fit an auxilliary fuse box in the cab with a direct fused feed from the battery, to allow for later additions, and use a separate switch for the gauges.

IGNITION 1 BLACK/YELLOW (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
IGNITION 2 BLACK/RED (+) IGNITON SWITCH HARNESS
ACCESSORY/HEATER BLOWER 1 BLUE/RED (+) IGNITON SWITCH HARNESS
