amen to that. when i drove the 830 miles between atlanta and houston over spring break, the cost of gas was exactly equal to the cost of a round-trip ticket. only reason i drove was because my girlfriend was with me and we split the cost of gas.

I took my 4runner to destin FL from nashville 2 spring breaks ago, not a single problem. Make sure it's in tune, carry some spare stuff, belts, hoses, a quart of oil, some water or antifreeze mix. I was worried about it, but it did fine. Yours should be fine.

I would drive cross country in my 93 Corolla with 208k 1.8L on it but I've had it since it was new and trust the car. As already mentioned, check all fluilds and every piece for neglected maintenance. Enjoy the road trip together.
If you can drive it several days yourself to get a fell for it and if it's making any bad noises before taking a trip.

I have to drive my daughter to college next August: DC to Missouri, and back again. That's over 1,000 miles one way. And I'll be doing this at least twice a year, apparently, since she will be coming home in May.

I have an '07 Taco - 4x4.

My wife has a '99 Subaru Forester - AWD

It kills me to put all the mileage on my vehicles, especially when I have 4x4s and have no use for all that extra weight. All that extra money for lousy gas mileage for nothing.

I'm thinking of renting something.
