at the end of may my girlfriend wants to go to texas to see her friend graduate from basic im guessing .....we figure it would be cheaper to drive....i have a 1997 tacoma 2.7 5sp with 157k miles

would you drive this far with yours....i wouldnt ask this but ive only own this truck for a couple weeks that why i ask..

im gonna change the oil and plugs and wires and i know my exhaust manifold needs to be changed due to a crack and probably change anti freeze

any thing else you would change or do...

by the way its a 15hour drive and about 930miles

i think it would make it...its just i dont no much about this motor so thats my reasoning for asking

 

as for the distance it would most likely be good for the motor, long constant speed, but you body would not be thanking you.

 

you'll be fine... you're in a populated area if you need parts, unlike driving from alaska to utah...

my 93 does trips like that all the time.
bring some basic tools and watch out for cops

weve been toghter for 2years and her friend is a girl that just joined the air force and she has a ford f150(that explains it all)lol her brother just put a new motor in it about 2k miles ago and shes like we could take your truck

Check your wheel bearings , tire pressure and tread , all fluids rears and tranny as well as oil and window wash , brake pads and rotors and have a nice trip.

 

I drove my 87 4Runner from California to Massachusetts and back to California and then to Texas and back a few years ago and it did fine. 930 miles is nothing.

 

I drove mine from Connecticut here to Nebraska and she did just fine. A good oil change before you go and a basic inspection should be all you need.

 

Just put 2500 on it over a week last august, near 1000 out, 500 or so farting around, another near thou back. No problem. 151,000-ish on it at the time. Made sure everything was good to go and had done the timing belt/wp prior to the trip.

 

I bought mine in oct. 05 with 68k and I now have 136k. Withing the first month I drove 5k. I love her and she loves me.

 

yeah i agree with everyone, i just drove from south carolina to Colorado and then some in colorado and back, over 3500 miles put on the clock. ive had mine a year and put 30k on it

 

You might be able to buy a plane ticket for cheaper than the gas...

 

I put 70k on my 99 prerunenr with the 3rz in two years, in that time I put oil in it and tires on it.

 

yeah i dont know about my timing chain but ive heard they last along time
