I'm moving from Seattle to Tucson and taking my 85 pickup with me. It has no AC but I'm gonna need it. I want the coldest AC system on the market and I don't care what it looks like or where it goes in the cab or what vents it comes out of or any of that I just want a good reliable system.

Do you guys know of any kits?

the kits for mine was about $750, I'm not sure about how much of the kit uses stock (or close) parts, and some people here have brought up concerns about that, but they are mostly just purists worried about having a part on their truck that they can't buy at a dealership, but i guess that the kits from the site above have warranties too, so thats a little piece of mind for you, and they are in arizona and i think they have a shop that does installs if you aren't wanting to install it yourself, and all the peices will be brand spankin' new too, so thats a good reason for not going the junkyard route

If you do a search for "air conditioning" and look through all the threads, you will find a few members who have done kits from these guys with no major issues,

I have the ackits.com A/C on my '91. Can't complain about the parts. The compressor is a good one, the rest of the parts work fine. The hoses are well made and fit right on. For the price I think it's a good kit. The company is located in Phoenix, so it's not really that close to you. But they are close enough that you could take your truck up to Phoenix and have them do the installation. I did the install myself, it's not difficult. I had the evacuation and charge done at a local A/C shop. My only real complaint is that the housing for the evaporator inside the truck, under the dash, isn't nearly as well made as the stock duct that came out. It worked, but took some massaging to fit. I'm almost done rebuilding my engine, so when I'm done with that I'll snap some photos of the system.

Not to hijack your thread or anything, but does anyone know what year that toyota switched from the R-12 to the R-134 refridgerant (sp?) in the trucks?

 

I think Toyota switched to R134A for the 1994 model year.
