Why commercial title/reg

OK I live in Cali and know that everything here is screwy. I know pickups are titled/registered as commercial vehicles. Dont really get why but ok. How/why is a 4Runner a commercial vehicle? Does anyone else have their 4Runner titled as a commercial vehicle? Or not?

Because it has (or can have) and open bed to carry cargo, like a pickup. And best to get the commercial reg. as you then "qualify" for the higher height limits. As a passenger car, I think 24" to the frame is it, but since the 4Runner has a GVWR of 4700 lbs, you get a 30" frame height limit:

BTW, I carry a copy of this page in my glove box along with a tape measure in the tool box in case I am ever questioned on this by a police officer, since I am right under 24" w/ 33s and will be over 24" with 35s.
