What do you think about this?

So I was driving along a back road home today and came across this beauty:

The for sale sign says 3500 (Canadian), and when I talked to the guy he said he would be okay with 3000

List of stuff done:
Headers
Exhaust
Cam
Brand new Warn hubs
Tires/Wheels
Rancho lift
2 inch Body lift
2 8" subs
Wal-Mart flip screen deck
Hella Aux. lights
Custom dry box

Needs:
New front U-Joint
Back check valve (??? - he said it has a vapor lock problem because of this?)
- I've never worked with a carb engine before so I don't know what that means.

Any advice or opinions would be much appreciated!
If I do buy this it will be within the next few days!

First thing I would check is the frame....

Can you throw a cat through it? If not...check for frame repairs

The frame is mint!

I'm super pumped on this truck, but I don't want to get overexcited and then get in over my head with this vapor lock business

Vapor lock ( a pocket of vaporized fuel usually in the gas line) is caused by the engine or engine compartment being too hot (normally in hot weather). you may want to wrap the headers, check the thermostat, the routing of the fuel line (maybe wrapping them as well) too lean of a carb fuel mix will cause this too.

The paint job was done with a good paint, but the shop that did it didn't do a very good job.

I'm taking a mechanic buddy of mine out to take a look at it tonight, and if it's all good I'm gonna make an offer on it tomorrow!

Awesome! There's one around here that is white and is almost identical to that one, and I've always wanted the white one.

Sounds like a solid deal if that vapor lock is easily fixed.

I'd go for it.

Well I'm actually going to try and bring 2 out. One is the mechanic at a salvage yard that his family owns (but he knows what he is doing when it comes to Toyotas), and the other one worked for Ford for I don't know how many years, and now works on heavy duty John Deer equipment. So hopefully they will be able to tell when he is talking out his a** and lying to us. hahaha.

I asked the guy yesterday about the gears and he said that he didn't know if the PO had re-geared or not. How would we go about checking that without having access to a shop?

its real simple...use the search tool for checking gear ratios. all it amounts to is lifting one tire off the ground and spinning it while counting the rotations of the driveline...ok, its a little more complex than that to figure it out, but thats the procedure. if you can't find it on here (which i know you should be able to because a lot of guys have posted it...i know i've posted the procedure 3 or 4 times over the last year or so...) pm me and i'll try to get you the procedure.

So I did a bit of searching, and found that I spin the drive line 2 times and however many times the wheels spin around, is the gearing?

does that sound right?

yeah it will get you close.

5 spd more than likely it's 4.10

These trucks are getting rare. Especially in decent shape.

Snatch it up man, offer low never hurts

I am very seriously considering buying it. The only issue I'm having is justifying buying a project truck when I still have three years of college ahead of me!
