I just ordered one and its a month out still and I have a Tercel i need to get rid of but it needs a head gasket first.

It's not your traditional one there is two kinds of 12 pt, i need the one on the right

Reason i ask is the only place i've found to get one has me on backorder for a month and i need it sooner

its a 12pt hex key i forgot to mention its 8mm
not like most though, its bi-hexagon not the standard kind

Hmmmmmm, a regular hex won't fit in there huh? Can you grind a notch in it and use a straight slot?

 

i'd rather not cause if it for some reason doesnt work, then i'm really screwed, i might try it tho...

 

Wow just saw your edit. Seriously, you can't use a regular hex. I hate star tip fasteners, we use them on jets now and they strip out quick.

 

Are these countersunk?

 

yeah theres hardly any contact area on there why not a regualr 6 sided male bolt

I'm trying to picture the bolt, is the outside knurled? Enough for a socket?

I'm not going to lie to you, that is one goofy ars bolt!!
They setup should work, just make sure to use a jam nut or weld it together.

 

i'll probly do both lol it's gonna be high torque. then i'm gonna go buy some real head bolts from napa

 

It'd be a good idea, hate for you to bust a nut while doing those torque loads...

 

Hey Al, how'd your homebrew tool work out on those headbolts??

 

That design is what ALL toyota headbolts look like now. Not sure why toyota went with that particular bolt design, but it has something to do with the ability to hold better.

 

it didnt work, just snapped in half, it's actually such a small bolt (about an 8th inch diameter) i didnt expect it to work.


man this is pissing me off but i'll get something worked out

 

How about welding the nut to something else? Like an old socket 6" extention?
