When I brake I it feels like the brake rotors are warped. I changed the front brakes completely and had all the tires balanced and rotated but still the feeling of warped brakes remain. Any suggestions of what it could be?

mike the runner your driving is notorious for having warped rotors. you could have them machined and that would help for a little while but it will come back. try to find slotted rotors or drilled to help the problem. also adj your rear brakes so your drums are helping brake. most of the time toyota's will pulsate due to the rear brakes not being used very much.

 

i got some ebc rotors on order for mine they where 30ea plus shipping found them on ebay from what i read drilled or slotted dont help much

 

yeah slotted will help get rid of the gas that is made when you brake. plus rotors like power slots are made with a coating that helps them last longer

 

Sorry fellas, I was out hunting and couldn't back to my computer to reply.

So here is the thing.....I noticed the "warped" feeling immediately after I changed the rotors. I felt it the first time I drove them.

 

Anyone think the problem could be the steering rack bushing? Does your steering wheel also vibrate at hwy speed?

 

My steering wheel does vibrate between 70-75 mph. I also adjusted the rear brakes so that they would take a little more of the braking load.

warping can be caused from using power tool to tighten your wheel.

use hand.

 

I have the same problem, on My 2003 Taco. I just replaced the rotors, as I was convinced it was them...(stockers with 67,xxxMiles) The new rotors seemed to help, but that notorious pulsating feeling is still there. My next step is going to be to bleed my brakes (starting at the LSP) and Adjusting the rear brakes/E-Brake. I may not get to it til friday, but I'll post my findings.

***EDIT*** what Cal01 said is 100% true. A torque wrench is a must for any DIY mechanic.

 

22RE_yota: Thanks and let me know what you find on the bleeding/adjusting of the brakes. I'm taking it into the shop to get an alignment and I hope that helps with the problem. If it doesn't I guess I'll just keep trying other things until the vibration stops.

 

Check your flexible rubber brake lines. Hard to do, but I have seen many of the stock brake lines narrow in the middle which will cause pulsating brakes. It will also cause your rotors to warp. When you take off the calipers hang them out of the way with wire. If you have stretched them wheeling that will also do it.

Did you get the wheel bearings adjusted up correct if they are to loose it will cause the issue.

Torque wrench for the wheel bearings.

Using a impact wrench will cause rotors to warp ??? That is a new one on me I think you would break the studs first.

With most of this hardware now made in China you might get bad rotors right out of the box.

If you can`t get it fixed bite the bullet make friends with your local Toyota dealer parts people and try two new Toyota ones.

I had a Celica I went through about 3 sets of rotors till I went to the dealer it cured the problem.

if you replace brake pads without getting the old rotors turned or replaced, you will most of the time (not always) get some vibes. get some powerslots. when its time, ill put em on my truck. in the mean time ive had em on my stang for almost 3 years and no probs.

 

sorry for the late reply. Im trying to revive this thread. I have been swamped with life and could not bleed my brakes. I did however put new rotors on old pads, and it seems to help. Its not cured, but I wonder if all of these issues we are talking about on here are coming up at once and amplifying the problem...I know one way it can be fixed $$$$$ and 93yotaSR5 has an even more costly option. On my '91, I had new calipers, pads rotors and lines put on the front, and they were like new...worked so well that the rear brakes felt like ˟˟˟˟˟.
I just adjusted em up and sold the truck.

 

If you already put new rotors on your vehicle , and its still vibrating upon braking , it is a possibility you didnt break your new rotors in the proper way , there is a procedure to break them in . I had a ford van once and i didnt do the break in procedure and i just re warped the new rotors again hehe , hope this isnt what happened for your sake . yeah for all i know I just over heated/warped em again. I dunno. When I get time to get it in the shop, I'll bleed the brakes and post the results.
