turn signal relocation

Hey,

I was going to fab a new frond bumper and was thinking about light options. One thought I had was to use the daytime running lights next to the headlights and rewire them to blink. They are in a good location and would appear stock. Anyone try this or have thoughts?

Just drill some holes in the back of your sidemarker lights and install the blinker bulb socket thru the back...voila!

I see your from canada so i don't know what your DMV laws are.

I myself would try 2 incorporate amber LED lens into the bumper build

I must have had some spelling mistakes in the first search as I see now that many people have tried this, I knew I couldn't be the first to think of this I mean we all drive yotas right. There was a posting were a guy switched his 5 watt running light with a 20 watt halogen of the same size it looks bright but he is from spain, I wonder were to get this on this side of the pond.

I rewired my running lights when adding my bumper. They're not very bright and hard to see from the front at night. From the side is fine. Now, they all blink real fast, too. I guess the bulbs are a different voltage.

All automotive bulbs are 12 volts, what is different is the wattage or how much current the bulbs take. Assuming you used the low watt parking lamp for the turn signal, then the current the bulb takes (and that the flasher relay sees) is less and the flasher thinks a bulb may be burned out, thus it flashers faster to let you know of the possible problem. You can modify the flasher (pirate4x4.com has a writeup on this) or install a heavy duty, solid state flasher that flashes at a constant speed regardless of load or install a higher wattage bulb. A turn signal bulb is usually around 25 watts (2 amps) while a parking light bulbs is maybe 10 watts (0.8 amps or so). With the dual filament 1157 bulb I used for my modified turn signals, I use the heavy 25 watt filament for the turn signal and the smaller 10 watt filament for the parking light. Works just like the original bulbs did.

Back of housing drilled to accept the larger 1157 bulb and socket:

you could drill out the hole to accept a 1157 style bulb holder

You could learn to communicate with other telepathically.....then you wont need blinkers anymore!
