Very nice filter, get it. There's a few threads on the forum about it and the general consensus is that...it's good!

When I got my used 'runner, the stock Toyota filter wasn't in an encouraging conditon at all and it looks as though it lets through a lot more particles compared to the Trueflow. I really think the quality of the filter is top notch and I feel confident that it'll keep things cleaner then they were stock. I can't say I've noticed an increase in mileage, in fact, I think I've been having a loss ever since I installed the Trueflow Intake and the Trueflow filter...'been driving with a heavy foot because I love the way you can hear it suck air in ... and a little extra power at higher RPMS is nice too!

Doesn't that "sucking air" sound get a little annoying after a while? It only happens at a specific RPM, but I wish it were a little quieter (so I could hear the S/C more ).

Actually, on my truck the sound happens right at the junction of vacuum/boost.

Actually, it's a little comical...my girlfriend gets in my truck and I floor it to pass someone, she goes... " why is it wheezing like that? "

I thought it was cool at first, now I just drive as I usually do and it doesn't happen unless I make it. When it does though, I get a mental image of all this clean air going into my engine, lol. I suppose if I heard it all the time it would get annoying, but I don't see it as an issue with regular driving.

I got this filter a long time ago and I love it. Mileage increase, slight approximately a .9-1.1 mpg gain judging by my recorded mileages over the past year or so.

It's by far the best filter that I have ever seen...course the only ones that I have ever owned are K&N and this True Flow.

I'd recommend it to everyone who has a stock filter now.

who can really say if its better or worse? whats the criteria?

ive had the amsoil 1st gen filter and now the trueflow. the first trueflow i had was molded incorrection and fit really tight and improperly. i got a replacement through jasonb and now it fits perfectly.

i hve not cleaned it yet, so that is part of the equation of evaluating how good it is or not

as for the mpg improvement, its just the same as my amsoil. no difference

IIRC, Gadget did a comparison test against Amsoil and found the Trueflow to be better.

Regardless, i personally think it's better after visually comparing it to an Amsoil filter that my bro bought for his first Tacoma.

I did do a couple things (clean MAF & TB) when i dropped mine in so i wont say it solely made a difference although i can say that my engine noticeably breaths better, pulls better in 1st to 5th gear, and increased MPG by 20-30 miles per tank.

After 7k~ miles, my Trueflow filter has been great.

When i got it...

If you want to save $$ buy it from Northridge Toyota: $35 shipped.

When I did my 3.4 conversion, the donor Taco already had a K&N induction kit on it. I don't mind K&N filters for pavement applications, but for dirt roads and trails, I didn't really feel that it was up to the task (as many treads around here will attest).

I got myself a Truflow cylidrical filter, and put that on the end of the K&N intake pipe. I've been driving it since just before Christmas, and I've been very satisfied with it. Driving in the mountains, as I do, you can really hear the air passing through pretty frequently -- Nice sound!

Well, I walked outside to drop mine in and locked myself out of my house with no keys! So after sleeping in the runner for two hours, My GF got home and let me in. I drove it about 10 miles, and I don't like the sound much at all. Right now it sounds hissy and low rpms, and no different throughout the rest. Saturday I will be doing the ISR mod, and hopefully it will have a different sound. It will be well worth it though if I gain any MPG.

Verdict: THIS FILTER WILL MAKE YOU LOCK YOURSELF OUT OF YOUR HOUSE. DONT BUY IT. lol

How bad is this hissing sound? I just bought a 97 and I'm looking to squeeze as much MPG as possible out of it, but I don't want to "mod" it out. I want it to look, sound, and feel as stock as possible.

Adam, I've had the deckplate mod done since about 4 years ago, had an amsoil air filter, and then replaced it with the true flow. I still don't hear anything, unless I'm at WOT, and that's due to the deckplate, which gives a nice roar, but nothing overbearing.

The only time I hear my intake is when the snorkel is engaged, otherwise my flowmaster 50 muffler drowns out the rest......

I can't believe someone voted the TrueFlow as the worst ever....... must me someone who sells another brand.......

I have yet to find a flaw in the filtration capabilities if this filter and I drive daily through some very fine dust.
