My 90 4runner is rated at 3500 lbs towing, so what would my tongue weight be? Its weghing at 340 right now but i think i might be cutting it close. my ball and hitch is rated at 6000 but i think my hitch receiver is 350 lbs but not sure. if it is is 340 lbs to close? thanks guys

500lbs should be fine.. make sure your shocks are in good order if your gonna go that high.. also, if you have the funds and time you should look into some air shocks for the rear. it makes a huge difference on my 4k lbs dump trailer with a 400 pound tongue weight..

unbolt the bottom and try to compress it, it should give a smooth and rather stiff feel. when it extends, it should be slow and smooth.. taking about 5-8 seconds to fully extend.

Your tongue weight should be 10% of your total trailer weight (with stuff).

speaking of balance, you need to make sure their is the same amount of weight forward of the trailer axle as behind it.. then measure your tongue weight. towing a trailer at the limits of your vehicle is not as easy as many may think.. and should be given allot of attention before and during..

good luck.
