Towing more than the specified capacity

Hi,

I've got a 1996 4Runner V6 4x4 with a class III hitch. I need to move a 1962 Buick which weighs nearly 5000 pounds about 15 miles. With a rental car trailer from U-Haul, the weight would be nearly 7000 pounds. Would towing 2000 pounds over the truck's limit screw it up, even if its only for 15 miles?

Thanks

Probably overheat the trans if its an auto or other horrible things. That is way to heavy a car and trailer combo to safely move with a 4runner of that vintage. You would also be over the hitch capacity as well as the tire capacity.

Play it safe and rent a uhaul truck form them to pull it.

Unless you lie to uhaul they will never rent you a trailer.

Seems we get one of these Towing questions about once a week.

If you need to ask the question you most likely should not do it!!

Get in an accident towing 40% over your rated capacity could lead to your insurance company not having to pay.
