I could not find any aswer in the search.If it was discued earlier pleas direct me to the thread.
So i was thinking about to get a manual Tacoma.One of the reason i like manual because it usually possible to tow if it's brake down.I talked with the Toyota dealer today and they said from 92-08 any of the SUVs pickups are not towable either auto(which i understand) and manual.Anybody knows the reason.
(I read on the ih8mud.the LCs has a oilpump in the transfercase,so i checked out the service manual for 2002 4runner and that one has a oilpump in it too.
Anyway i do not know if there is any relation between the oil pump and the no towing.
If i set neutral on a manual tranny while i am rolling on the road it still working or should work fine.I know if i tow it probably because the engine is not running but the engine and the transfercase has no connection at all.)

 

No idea why Toyota would say you can't flat tow a manual. The only reason you cannot flat tow an auto is the front pump isn't turning, so the trans isn't getting fluid. Since the cases on Trucks and 4Runners are not open diff style, they will always turn and allow everything to be lubricated. I see no issue at all.

FWIW, i once read to tow with the trans in gear, and the case in neutral if so equipped.

well idk about an auto but i see no problems towing a manual as long as it is in nuetral. And if you have a four wheel drive put the transfer case in nuetral and no tranny parts will spin or could remove the rear drive shaft 8 bolts if not a four wheel drive. Meaning even if it has an auto nothing what so ever in the trans would be spinning.

No problem with a manual I've ever heard of.

On a side note, In the manual for my jeep (automatic) it says to put the x-fer case in neutral and the tranny in park.

It's a Toyota, they don't brake down so there won't be any towing anyway. And on the slim chance that it does tell the towing company to use a flatbed or the dolly.
