tire rot

I have two sets of 33" tires, one set being my BFG ATs and the other set being my PC MTs. The spare I have under my truck is your factory 31" spare. While I may be able to limp home on this if I am around town, for longer trips, depending on which set I am on, I was thinking of carrying one or two from the other set (its cheaper to cause wear on a tire than my drivetrain) in my bed. My question is though...if I have one in my bed for an extended period of time (like weeks), will sun and the weather cause some excess tire rot or anything like that since it isnt being used? Thanks!

I don't think weeks would cause it, but I'm no expert.
Don't the tires you drive on get weeks of weather and sun?
If it's really a problem, just get one of those tire covers?

Though I've heard of tires problem being related (whether correctly or not) to tires sitting for an extended period of time (months or a couple years). I'm not sure if there is any truth to this... can anyone confirm one way or the other?

It takes years. The spare on my Bronco II has been exposed on the tire carrier for 5 years before it began to degrade. That's in the midwest. I helped a guy out of Colorado whose tires were falling apart and blowing out on the horse trailer he bought, including his spares. Research pegged those tires at 10 years old. Those should have been replaced a few years before that. As for tires in the desert I don't know.
