Stupid Move of the Day...

GOES TO ME!!!

This is what happens when the road is ice cold, and the person in front of you slams on her brakes...

Luckily, no one was hurt. Hopefully, it's not totalled. What do you guys think?

She was driving a Ford Expedition. Her trailer hitch took most of the impact. Hardly can even tell it was hit. (which is good).

I wouldn't say that it's totaled. Check for a bent/broken frame if it hit her trailer hitch. I imagine its probably 1K in body panels / headlights / ac unit. Get an ARB or TJM :-). Check for under-hood damage as well. Good luck, Eric.

I believe that fluid is from the tranny cooler.

The 4Runner is at a tow yard. I have Rental car Coverage, so Enterprise will pick me up tomorrow, and I'll swing by the tow yard to pick up a couple of things from the 4Runner.

I had to turn the car on to move it off of the highway. The belts were screeching like crazy. I think I'll need a new bumper, headlights, grill, hood, radiator, tranny cooler, airbags, and few other things under the hood. I don't know what all that will cost, but hopefully, not too much.

I'll post updates.

Dang, 3rd gens are goin down like crazy. Doesn't look all that bad. Buy the parts and replace everything urself to save alot of money.

I feel bad for whoever rear ends me. They are gonna eat on a reciever with a giant tow hook welded on it. Poor thing!

Yeah, I know. My friend rolled his up in Canada a couple months ago (97 Limited) and my friend's brother-in-law rolled his last year.

Talking to my friend (insurance adjuster), he said that it's a total. Here is why:

The airbags alone, are $4,000 to install! (driver & passenger). Plus, the front end damage... If it's a total, I think I'll buy it back and part it out. The engine, supercharger, and rear locker would all be available.

Buy it back and build it youself. You will prob. make it a trail rig later on any way. Get a shop to fix the front end sheet metal, and buy the parts off of here. That is what I would do. The insurance will not give you enough for it to replace it, and if they do you will not find one like what you had.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. However, I do not need a trail rig right now. What I'll do is, probably buy it back, part it out, and meanwhile, shop for an LC or LX470.

Plus, I have no clue how to fix/install the airbags. At $4000, I wouldn't want to tackle that myself. Not only because of the cost, but liability. I'd hate to have a passenger injure his/herself because of a faulty install.

Anyway, I hope it won't be a nightmare dealing with Liberty Mutual.

I figured it would be a total when I saw the airbags. That usually clinches it.

try and get them to settle without totalling it or settle buy it back and part it, i woulnt fix a vehicle with a salvage title, because, at lease here in tx, if a salvage titel vehicle is involved in a wreck, the insurance wont pay anything more than the salvage worth. which is most likely not near the cost of fixing it after the original wreck. at least that is how it was explained to me when a previous car was totalled.
