Stereo cuts out after a minute of running

I freaking hate electrical problems. My stereo worked great since I bought it back in june, cant figure out all of a sudden it just cut out after running the engine for a minute. Any idea what could be shorting or if a fuse is bad? i tried to figure out from my chiltons but for some reason it does not tell me what fuse is my radio on my 86 Extra cab 4x4 5spd. Any ideas? thnks to anyone that can help me

Does your cig lighter or clock work? Those wont work if your radio fuse blew.

possibly a wire to speakers or a speaker shorting out... first test, disconnect wires in back that lead to speakers... probably have to cut and stuff... it will be the white, white and black, green, green and black, purple, purple and black, gray, and gray and black....

if you disconnect those and dont let ends touch, and it stil craps out... and rest of acc work fine... then it is likely junk, if it stops crapping out and stays on, you have good chance deck is ok... but it still might just crap out under load...

if you have a multimeter, you can test each pair of speaker wires while all cut to make sure they arent under say 3.5-4 ohms

Need more info. Does the sound cut out but the display is still on? Is it blowing fuses or does it come back on when you turn the truck off and on? Does it cut out when you turn the volune up or hit bumps?
