havent found too much luck searching, and ive actually yet to see it done....but does anyone know of a way to mount a snowboard on a surco, or a way i can mount a snowboard rack and still leave my surco on? im willing to get creative...

yea i was thinking that, but the question is will it clear.....because the basket rises about 4 inches or so above the rails.

 

one thing to think about.. get some yakima cross bars. somehow cut them to length and maybe weld them from top rail to top rail on each side of the basket?

then you could put any kind of yakima product on that.

could be another way instead of welding but thats just my idea.

and if you mount the rack to the bottom of the basket.. it will not clear inless your basket is long enough to clear a 160 size snowboard

 

Maybe this would be a better option for you!!



You just have to build a backet so the boards can be just on outside of your basket!!

You Could even put a set of these on both sides of your Basket to hold more boards!!

 

blake thats exactly what i was thinking. the surco made out of just aluminum right? im wondering what i could use to attach the bars to it. i think this will be the simplest way too.

 

Just set it in the basket and bungy it down.

 

i would but ill be having several other boards up there. and that just isnt an option. i guess i could just take off the surco, but i really dont want to do that because i have lights on there, and it holds my hi lift.

 

or just chuck it in the back???..thats what i do....take 2 seconds to put 'em in there!

^^ Exactly. I just put one of the seats down (I've got 180cm skis) and can still accomodate 4 people (though the 2 in the back will be up-close & personal.)

 

I think he's like me on this one!! I have a pretty big Sub Box in the back of my Runner!! And the edge of boards and ski's are sharp and cut and Scratch everything!!

 

I always lay down a towel or blanket. Problem solved.

BTW, I need to head up to BC to do some skiing. You gotta be loving it up there. Utah isn't bad, but BC is ridiculous.

Taking off the surco would prob be the better choice. That rack plus having snowboards sticking up at an angel (like pictured above) would cause some serious wind drag and kill your gas mileage.

I picked up a set of Yakima racks that can mount directly to the factory rack...helps keep a low profile. You can find good deals on eBay...

I just throw mine in the basket and strap it down with bungee cords

 

see ill probably do that some......butttt seriously all of my friends board, and none have cars up here, so when we go boarding, its going in the 4runner. so i will always more than just my board, but when its just mine, ill probably throw it inside or in the surco.

i guess im just a nice guy....in a way, im getting this rack for my friends' boards....but hey, ill benefit too.

 

my snowboard racks are attached to my yakima load warrior.. I have everything yakima, mako saddles, bike rack, load warrior, powderhound se, and crossbars.

If you can find a way to attach the crossbars to the surco without welding that would be money!!!

 

I am not familiar with your rack, but from my experience Yakima racks will bolt to almost anything, I used to have my hully-rollers bolted to a 1.5" cross bar of a universal truck rack by removing the hardware from the bottom and replacing it with U bolts from the hardware store.
