Well, I've been avoiding the thread lately due to the length of it. But I guess I better buy some cans. I'll put a couple cans in the old 90, lord knows it could use it. I physically cleaned the intake/tb before I assembled it, so they're pretty clean. But the gas mileage is poor ~14 i'd guess. So maybe this will help clean the fuel system a little bit. The truck's got about 180k miles on it.

On the 99 I'll do the "full service." It runs great, but it turns over a few times before it will start, where as the 90, you just hit the key and it fires every time. Also the mileage on the 99 is a bit sub-par. I'd expect at least 20mpg, and even with my light foot i'm getting about 18. I'll let you guys know how it goes. This one's got about 95k. And since it's time for an oil change, it's perfect time to do this.

For you guys who are scared of running this in your oil (and believe me, I see your point) you need to recognize that when this stuff is sitting on the top of your pistons, some of it is seeping past the rings into your crankcase and mixing with your oil. That's why I'm going to do this just before an oil change, then run it for a few minutes before changing the oil.

Every 3.4L I've ever seen does the same thing. Even with 15k on the odometer.

Both my dad and cousin have 98's. Theirs start a little faster. I know they made minor changes in 99, but do you think this was one of them?

Doubt it's a deliberate change. It feels as if the fuel system depressurizes after sitting for a while. Try holding the key in accessory position for 10 seconds or starting it up when it was driven not long ago. It should start much better.

Well I had to special order the Seafoam. No one carries it where I live. I bought 6 cans.

I put 1 can threw the PCV Line. shut it off and let it sit for a couple hours. Stared it back up and WHAM. BLUE SMOKE LIKE CRAZY. Seems to run a little smoother Now. I also added a can into the Fuel tank, and One can into the Crankcase. Gonna run a couple days with it in there and change my oil.

I did a second treatment threw the PCV Hose yesturday and hardly any smoke came out, Must be clean in there now.

Oh. 1991 4Runner, Under 300K (Dunno the speedo stop working last summer at 225Kms) I have the 22RE Motor.

Seafoam Gets my vote.

Treated the 4runner with seafoam into the TB via the PCV hose. Poured about 1/4 of a can, then poured a little more to try and make 1/3. Let it sit for 15 minutes, and good god bluish/white smoke came out. I even timed how long it took. It blew white smoke for 26 minutes at idle, and for another 6 minutes while I had my foot on the accelerator to keep it above 1500 rpm. Then poured the rest of the 1st can into the intake again, and let it sit for a good 30 minutes. Blew out very little white smoke the second time. And threw a full can into the gas tank as well. I'll post my mpg results as soon as I go through a full tank.

Well, I did it. Went out there and put a can through it (in 3 steps). Smoked quite a bit. I only waited about 5 min between the fills. This last one however I'm going to wait about 15. It really bellowed out of there after the 2nd fill. I also added a can to the gas tank, and will add one more can for the next tank. Kinda stinky stuff, but I'm sure it's going to do some good. I'll keep you all posted.

Well, I put in the 3rd 1/3 of a can and let it sit a while longer (10 min or so) and then headed out to a softball game. It smoked for about 6 or 7 minutes. The first few minutes were pretty intense, looking as though I blew a headgasket or a turbo the way the tailpipe was smoking. No fear though. So I got home after the game and since I was going to change my oil decided i'd give it one more good dose and let it sit for a while. SO I put about 1/2 a can in there pretty liberally. I apparently put so much in there that when I went to shut off the truck, I turned it off yet it was still running. It was "dieseling" is all I can figure. That stuff was in there so thick that it was just staying on fire and the truck kept running for about 15 or 20 seconds. Finally it shut off. I washed it up real nice and got my tools ready for the oil change. So about 30 minutes later I fired it up and it was smokin like a chimney again. Let it idle for about 5 minutes then got bored waiting so I took it around the block. Drove it about 5 minutes and the smoking cleared up for the most part. Then I changed the oil and put the remainder of that can in the fuel tank. So I've got about 1.5 cans in the tank and put 1.5 through the intake. We'll see what the results are like tomorrow. I didn't notice anything today. I'm not looking for anything but better fuel economy. A boost in power would only be icing on the cake, and I don't think it can run any better than it does, it runs just as good as it did the day it rolled out of the factory. Changed the oil tonight, and after nearly 6,000 miles, the oil that ran out all over my arm as i took the drain plug out looked just as clean as the oil i poured back in.

One thing I'd mention is that after I put the stuff into my oil and drove it for a couple of days, the oil looks really nasty after that. I'd highly recommend changing your oil after a couple of days of driving so that it doesn't run all that gunk through the motor for too long.

Has anyone used this on the 79-83 22R engine with any success? I am kind of weary of the PCV technique as I am not much of a mechanic. However, looking at their website, would I still get some decent benefit using it in the crankcase and in the fuel tank?

I've used it in a 22RE before and it worked great. I used it through the carb on a VW air cooled motor last weekend. No problems at all. Motor runs much smoother now. Just pour it SLOWLY into the carb or feed it into a vaccum line? Can't remember what your motor looks like, haven't seen one for a few years...

since we've all tried it and have had nothing but success and you haven't tried it and think you're smarter than all of us, then why don't you enlighten us with your infinite wisdom and do your best to make us seem inferior in your mind...????

either that or go find another thread to cast your opinion on. there's plenty of political threads you can pipe in on and argue as much as you want. this thread is for posting info for those that want to try it and not for people wanting to start arguments.
