ring and pinion weaker in reverse or not?

I have a 91 extended cab 5 speed 4wd 4:88 with tru-tracs front and rear with 33,s. I seem to be able to back up anything in reverse assuming because it is acting like a front wheel drive car and heavy front end is pushing instead of pulling i was just curious if the ring and pinion is weaker at all in reverse.

Theoreticaly, it would depend on whether the gears are cut in whichever fashion allows for them to be "coasting" or "riding", when in reverse. Sorta complicated question for me to sum up. Someone here will follow up with what I started. But yes/no for now. By which I mean, the front and back diff wont be "coasting" simultaneously, as I understand without "reverse-cut" gears in one axle or the other.

It's stronger in reverse because it's running on a different side of the gears. I forget the technical name for that side of the gears, drive side IIRC.
When going forward it runs on the coast, again IIRC, side or weaker side of the gears.

A high pinion axle is the opposite.

Ummm - you kinda got it backwards Tony...

The coast side is weaker. I don't remember by how much though.

Like I answered your post on TTORA, on the Pretaco trucks, the front is a regular cut low pinion which is STRONGER in reverse. The rear is a regular cut low pinion, stronger going forward.

3rd gens and Tacos have a high pinion, reverse cut front, so BOTH diffs are weaker in reverse.

Like I said I might have it backwards.

All I know is a high pinion is better suitted for a front axle then a low pinion.
