Rebuilt 4runner Advice
(Sorry about the placement no clue where to put this) But I'm looking to buy a 4runner (for my first car) and I found a 2000 4 runner (3.4 auto 4x4 Sr5 ect) relatively close to me the problem is it has rebuild title and I was wondering what experience anyone has had with rebuilds and what I need to be looking for issue wise and anything that should scare me. I'm relatively handy with tools but this will be my DD and my first car so... here's the ad http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/4387081298.html

I would guess the Georgia Rebuilt title is kinda like our Pa reconstructed title.
Now here it means at one time the car was issued a scrap title no doubt when the insurance company sold it at auction.
Look it all over take it for a ride here in Pa to get the title it needs to go through a complete safety inspection.
Do you have any idea how it works down there.
An air bag goes off pretty much the car is totaled.
To me it is like buying any other vehicle.
You might want to ask if the timing belt was done.

Rebuilt or salvage title might mean anything.
All it really means in my state, is that the vehicle suffered some sort of damage that repair costs exceeded the vehicles fair market value.
Might be flood damage, might have been body/paint damage from a crash, or maybe worst of all, bent frame from severe crash.
Has to undergo a complete inspection by tne MVD to be certified roadworthy again.
You might luck out and gat a $$ deal on a rig that will last and not give trouble, or maybe not.
I don't think a rebuilt title truck is a good bet for a rookie, unless the price is super low and you go in with your head up.
What does the present owner have to say about how the truck came to have the rebuilt title??

Down here it's pretty much the same as anywhere else the car (or truck) was called a loss by an insurance company and either the owner or the insurance company sold it to be scrapped or rebuilt by a licensed body shop or something like that. Then it has to pass a inspection and if it passes you get a rebuild title.

See if you can get the seller to tell you what went wrong. If it was a wreck see if you know anybody that does body work. Bring the with you to put a undercover trained eye on it. Check for no factory welds. Ie core support frame gusseting ect. Not much help but maybe some.
