Rear tire swing?

This was such an awesome option... wish it hadnt gone anywhere
ANYWAY. I have 92 runner and plan on retrofitting a swing from either a runner or isuzu rodeo. Is it as simple as bolting it on? I know there is bracing on the inside, but is it just bolted to the frame, welded...?

Any thoughts, info, ideas are GREATLY appreciated.
I'd love to just homebrew a nice rear bumper with one, but I'm not exactly in a position to do that

But if anybody wants to drop by and teach me a thing or 2 about welding/ fabbing, I'd love to hear it! OOO yea... I'll need all tools neccessary...and materials for the bumper...
Hahaha thanks everyone

go to a junk yard and get one off a yota, they bolt on to a plate that has threads to hold, i would see if u can get it out and swap onto yours, just drill 4 holes and the swing will mount, then the latch part on the tail gate.

I'd rather have one off a rodeo, because it places the wheel closer to the drivers side, which would be better for sight out of the rear window. They are also a LOT easier to come across lol I would assume they have some sort of reinforcement as well

Someone on here (tan truck) installed an Isuzu Rodeo tire carrier on the back of his rig. Looked to be a clean install and he said it was pretty easy to do. I'll see if I can dig up the pictures and find his name for you.

Edit: Found it. Page 8 post #187, guys name on here is stevenazevedo00. Hope that helps.

Never hurts to try. Those were actually my first set but that truck has been gone for a few years, did put another set on my current rig though.

Any luck with the tire carrier?

Bible of the Holy Yota, Chapter 3, Wabbit 3.16:"Toyota waits for no man.", comes right after 4Crawler 3.15: "Thou shalt mod thy Yota."

It works like a door latch only using a t-handle to pull a cable to unlatch it.

I honestly think it would be easier, and cheaper in the longrun to get an aftermarket bumper with tire swingout incorporated into it. Saves you cutting into the sheetmetal on your truck too.

It is a pretty awesome feature to have though!

Finding an aftermarket with a swing out is a little harder than you'd think, well not really "harder" just difficult to find something that many of us can afford. I looked at one a while back and the manufacturer wanted 700$ plus shipping and it required some "assembly" which included welding work.

You can get a swing out from an Isuzu or a 4runner for about 30$ at a junk yard and make it fit with a little time and effort.

Yea aftermarket tire swings are NOT wallet friendly what so ever.
I haven't had the time yet, the nearest pull-a-part is almost 2 hours away, and I haven't had the oppurtunity to make the trip yet...
I'll try my hand at a write-up when I get it goin. It WILL happen

not worth it. build a bumper, put a swing out on it. win/win.
