price of trucks
has anyone else noticed that tacomas/pickups are selling for a premium? i really want to upgrade my truck to a newer xtra cab.....but holy cow....trucks seem to be bringing big green. i am now thinking i will freshen up the motor in the truck, and pick up a decent 4runner.
heres the million dollar question, and i am sure its been asked a million times - what kind of highway mileage can i expect with a stock runner? i'm thinking this is gonna be an auto, 3.4, like a 97. and, yes i did read the "post your gas mileage" sticky, but not to many guys reporting mileage on stock 4runners.

meh 15-25 ? more like 18 or so I would say.depending on how you drive!
Toyotas have always brought a premium price! People know that they last for ever and are hard to kill so they are more willing to pay 10,000 for a 8 year old truck.

You pay for the quality and the name. ITs worth it IMO.
You can expect around 20-22mpg If you drive decently. If you flog on it expect lower.
I get over 18mpg on my old 3.0 when I drive easy... The 3.4 gets better..

I have a '97 4Runner with 135k on the clock (in northern Utah, about 4800 feet elevation). With the stock tires I regularly got 19-22mpg driving normally, 50/50. A lot of people get less than that, but I can't account for that. With the bigger tires I get 17-21mpg if I'm conservative with the skinny pedal.
Plenty of people will tell you that 16-18mpg is normal - it is for them, but not for me.

I've never heard of 27mpg out of a 3.4L with any sort of normal driving. That statement may apply to 2wd regular cab pickups, but not a 4runner. Most get either in the very low 20's or teens with normal, semi-conservative driving habits.
