Power Antenna has ADD
Attention Deficit, not front diff. Yeesh
Anyways, I've noticed that when i start to leave good reception areas, the antenna get a mind of it's own and starts to go up and down on its own as if it were possessed or something. It's a little annoying, because its not like the reception is all that bad. It is a little bit fuzzy, but still easily listen-to-able (for lack of a better word...). Of course, once the antenna hides, its static city. The funny thing is watching it stop half way down, then goes up 2 or 3 inches, then back down some. It's like watching a pair of kids fight over which channel to watch if they each had a remote. I've got a POS alpine deck at the moment from a few years back. Could that be causing it, or is my truck possessed by crack addicted electrical gremlins?
edit: i seemed to have deleted half of the post, maybe im the possessed one...

Maybe there is something crazy built into the truck so if there is bad reception on the front antenna, it switches to the back antenna. Then the front antenna goes down. Then the truck realizes the back antenna isnt hooked up, so it switches back to the front antenna, so the antenna goes back up. Dunno if my truck would do the same, too much crappy radio out here.

maybe your problem is the other way around, it goes down and then reception gets crappy.... making it seem like the result is the cause, or something like that... sounds like the radio is on the fritz or you have a bad connection or ground

Ugh! The best day my power antenna had was when I took it off. Ditch it, and put in a Taco stationary one, you'll never be happier. Mine never went up and down, it was so terrible, and the reception was awful, I have not been happier since I put the black Taco one in, couldnt really ask for anymore then that.

I would switch to a normal permanent antenna, but there are too many shmuchs who like to damage cars in my neighborhood. Just yesterday I walked out of my house only to see my passenger side rear view mirror cranked forward as much as it could, along with everyone else's mirrors on my side of the street. If i didn't have the power whip, I could see it being good and ripped off. I'll look into the antenna lead. It is time to get a new deck, but I'm broke right now. I always seem to do my best stereo installs on vehicles in the winter time outside anyways, so I've got a few months to go...

You never saw me install the old kenwood. That was pimp. Heck, better yet was the 5 dollar AM radio i installed in my first car. (mazda 323) the plastic face cover was broken, so i made a new one out of thin plywood. That was real wood grain, none of that fake junk! Honestly though, a new deck is on the horizon.
