Is this pickup worth it?

Still amassing parts for the transplant. Recently did the classic SR5 gauge cluster swap. I have the electronic sensor cluster. Everything worked immediately except the speedometer. Plugged my old one and it worked immediately.
Am I to assume the new cluster I purchased arrived with a faulty speedometer? Do they even break (I’m sure they do, but is it common?) Any input is appreciated. I didn’t even bother to check wiring as my old cluster’s speedometer is still working.

I'd suggest you start with inspecting what you have on hand.
Identify the SPD signal wire coming out of the harness plug, and locate it's corresponding tab on the cluster. Does it have a good connection?
Follow the copper trace on the flexible circuit board. Is it scratched thru anywhere? Are the screws that connect the flex board to the guage clean and tight?
Next would be disassembly of the cluster to.get hands on the speedometer. Looking for a broken wire in the coil whuch might be repairable with a dab of solder. I don't recall off hand if that one is just a bimetal spring or coil like a solenoid.
