Is it painful to watch?
I'm a bit of a maintenance freak when it comes to my truck. I take good care of it, and it takes good care of me. I also like knowing it's in top shape, and I plan to keep it a while, plus good service records and maintenance do wonders for resale and value at the end of the day. I don't think I'm overly zealous about my maintenance about my truck though, but lets just say I am attentive, probably more attentive than most. And yet I find it painful to watch people who let their rigs go down the drain. Who don't take care of them, don't maintain them, etc. Do you know anyone like this? Do you sit there and almost offer up the $$$ or your time to do an oil change or help them do some type of maintenance?

I see where you are coming from. I always had to keep my aunts Camry and Mustang running, (The transmission has fluid?) but nowadays I have to spend every pennny and minute on MINE, well I want to that is.

and her attitude towards my friend (her hubby) flipping out? "oh, its just a mirror". of course, she didnt bother taking it to the dealership
i swear, hearing these stories from him drive me nuts. glad i ain't hitched to her.
my wife, on the other hand, is very careful about her car. probably since she sees me doing the majority of the maintenance on her lexus and my 4runner, she knows that if she was so flippant, id probably blow a gasket...literally

Life is in the details, as details require effort. i.e. a poorly kept yard, a jalopy of a vehicle, half ripped apart blinds in the windows, etc.
I am leary to trust someone who overlooks the details. Nor do I have much respect for them. Lack of attention to details shows a lack of personal discipline and responsibility.
But hey, society in general is now all about "me" and I'm an enginerd, so what do I know.

There's certainly a balance between keeping things nice and being responsible and then just enjoying what you have and being chill when others don't put as much value on things.
I have found with alot of my friends at college that they don't take good care of cars due to ignorance (which is usually family-inherited!). For instance, a good friend was convinced that a car was either 'good' or 'worn out.' Once he thought a car was worn out, he figured there was really no need to maintain it, that it was better to just run it into the ground. However, after spending time with me and learning how car components work (along with seeing a few run down 4Runner resurrected in my driveway) he began to understand one important thing: a vehicle is as good as the sum of its working components. Now he bugs me to take him to the autoparts store so we can change his sparkplugs and things. I'll get around to it someday...

i have the same feeling with my sisters cars she keeps trashing the she has wrecked 2 celicas (90 93) 1 civc (98) one escourt (90) and one caviler (01) all of witch were mint when she got them but trased when she got ride of them (she crashed evey one in the end).
Even with here current car she dosnt car she reacently got a 02 celica that she beats the bag out of every day the worst part is she is turning 20 this month she has had her licenc for less than 4 years she wont listen to me when i try to help her she thinks a car is a fashion peice and is only good for six months it drives me nuts
i sould take bets on her new car when will be trash i give it 7 months tops

I agree people who let things go drive me nuts...
admitedly i recently have allowed the body of my baby to get a little rusty in the usual spots but that was not for lack of desire on my part just lack of funds
but the parts are in now just have to schedule a slot with the body man.
[Not that I could'nt do it myself but he has a paint booth and a dry garage... all I got is a driveway.]
