Mine gets changed every 2000 miles.
My oil comes out looking like it wasn't even in the engine.
All my vehicles in the past had jet black oil, just disgusting looking.
Can't let that happen to this vehicle, I love this one.

I would suggest you do some serious reading about oil and change intervals on this forum before throwing out a statement like that.

FYI: If you use a good quality oil and keep it clean, going to 5k, 6k, or longer is not a problem. I am presently using Mobil 1, change it every 5k, and change the filter every 2.5k. I only maintain the 5k interval to keep the warranty requirements met. I am certain Mobil 1 is safe to use for 10k or more, if kept clean.

Ok, both of you guys who dissed me (EDGE and TechWrench) have no idea what you are talking about. I bet you only refuel when you sputter to a stop while driving down the road too, huh? On my '96 Prlude VTEC I ran Mobil 1 Syn. and still changed it under 3k including the filter. I didn't care how much it would cost me, I would rather have a great running engine. Like Scofco said, the oil came out like new because I didn't wait for it to get dirty. I don't run syn on this truck because I bought it with over 100k so I couldn't switch over to syn. Anyway, backoff. I wasn't trying to be mean or rude or offensive like you. So please, chill out and maybe you should crawl out from under your big woman! haha J/k

easy man, noone is insulting you and for your knowledge my 4Runner never goes below a half tank and I always run quality gas, no quickie mart stations it's your vehicle so do what you want with it, noone saying you have to change the oil any later just that many of the members on this board opt for longer intervals with synthetic.

Do some reading on Bob is the Oil guy their are several Toyota owners who have ran more the 5000 miles on dino oil and the oil was still in good shape so Toyota is not misleading us on their 5k oil change.

Noone is trying to pick a fight with you, where just sharing what we know, and my gf is not fat, she 5'7" and 125 lbs

I know that you weren't trying to be mean... but it sure sounded like it. It's all good. It just shocked me. I know service manuals always seem to say to change your oil way longer then I like to. My dad always taught me to change every 3k, so I do and will forever. Anyway..... have a on me.

OK, I'm having a bit of a problem trying to figure out how you come off being "dissed". It seems to me you threw out the statement that:

"Holy crap! I can't believe you guys what 5, 6, or 7k miles for an oil change!!! Don't you know that you are supossed to do it every 3k? Most of the time, I don't even wait 3000 miles before I change the oil. Wow.... you guys are crazy... especially if you go off-roading."

Sounds like you were 'dissin' anyone who doesn't follow what you think everyone is "supossed" (sic) to do. My father, rest his sole, also told me to change the oil every 3k, but that was 30 years ago, and engine and oil technology have come a long way. Freedom of choice is an amazing thing. If you choose to follow the 3k 'rule' thats up to you, and I wouldn't call you "crazy" for, IMHO, wasting good oil. It's your money. Just because the 'rule' used to be, doesn't mean the 'rule' is still valid. The oil companies and the service industry love to push the 3k 'rule' 'cause it's good for their business, not because they are concerned for your vehicle. The studies on oil change intervals and engine wear are out there and they all prove a mechanically sound engine will not suffer any ill effects of prolonged oil change intervals if the oil is kept clean. I, and others, choose to do the research and choose to make our own informed decisions based on the facts as we see them. I would expect that you would respect our right to choose as we see fit, it's our money.

My dad has always been ahead of the curve, when the cars required 1000 mile oil changes my father was running 3000 miles and when they where saying 3000 miles my father was going 5000, now he goes 7500, all on dino

He's has worked on engines his whole life, he knows how long the oil last, he has seen the inside of hundreds of engines, he laughs at the 3000 mile oil change.

He's also old school so the whole synthetic oil is new to him, he has ran more then his fair share of vehicles to 200k and beyond on dino juice so telling him synthetic is better and you will be able to put 200k on no problem he'll think your out of it.

I always stick with 2K-2500 miles. I prefer to keep the oil always fresh. Just a personal preference. I was talking to an engine builder who was doing some work for me and he suggested every 2500 miles between oil changes. He's built a lot of motors so I stuck with that info.

As for filters......I switch around. I like the Toyota's alot and the Purolator PrueOnes. I think I actually like the Pureones better. Just for the reason that I like the seal better (much thicker) and the metal sees to be of a heavier guage. I used to run Delco's all the time. I hacked a delco open and was impressed with what I saw compared to fram's and the base Purolator. However. They are now all made over in Mexico and the quality of the filter has REALLY!!! gone down hill. Thin metal. The filter actually broke inside mine. No more of them!!

Does oil color and clarity(sound like Im buying a diamond) show a fair representation of the shape of the oil and filter. I mean my saturn at 4K miles with amsoil and a sdf still has very clean looking oil. I'm gonna send the oil in my truck and car off at 5k mile4s to be tested just to see. If everything looks good I'm sticking with amsoil. Ive also considered going to mobil1 and a purolator on the next change and comparing them to the Amsoil after another 5k miles, but I dunno if this will tell me anything.

I would think that if the oil still looks clean, it probably is. On the other hand, clean oil at 4k proably means a dirty oil filter which is a good thing cause it's doing it job. Test it if you want peace of mind.

Yeah, it looks great on the dipstick, can still see right through it. Ill think I'll test each vehicle atleast once on the 5k mile interval at blackstone just more for my curiosity than anything.

Toyota OEM and Valvoline dino oil at around 3K to 4K.

Been thinking of Mobil 1, but 187K on the clock has me concerned about leaks and such. Any thoughts?
