I have an '89 pickup with efi 22re. The pressure regulator would never get over about 40psi so I thought I would replace it. Got a new one for this vehicle, installed it and the pressure now goes to about 43psi when I rev it. BUT the pressure leaks down right away when the engine is stopped. By pinching the return line from the regulator I can stop the leak down so that is where the leak is I think. The leak down takes about 5 seconds.
Then got another regulator from a different supplier and it behaved the same way.
Then I put the old regulator back on and it holds the pressure for at least a couple of hours after shutting off the engine.
What is going on with these new regulators, it just doesn't make sense to me?

No way you need 40 psi . I know its efi but my weber is only set to 2.5

 

The engine spec is for 43 psi. Dave

Now, The question was, why is the new regulator behaving this way?

 

After speaking with the manufacturer, I find that they just assert that the pressure will remain above 25psi for a minimum of 5 minutes once the fuel pump is off.

 

Your experience makes me think if I ever have to replace mine I'll be purchasing OEM.

 

My question is what kind of problems were you having prior to replacing the FPR??

Are these issues now fixed??

Perhaps now your engine is running worse then before??
