Maglite Mounting 1982 Toyota

Here is my idea on how to mount my maglite on my 1982. I got the idea from 4crawlers site to mount the light up to the grab handle bolts via some mounting clips made by maglite.

For reference, on my truck (all first-gens, i believe) the screw size that worked was (machine screw) 12x24, I chose a round head. The only thing is that the mounting holes in the brackets are too small. I simply drilled mine out to accommodate the bigger screw.

Mounted:

Finally every time I go around a corner, I won't hear it sliding around behind the seat!

Pretty sweet idea. Do you think a 3 D-cell would fit also? How secure is it? I wouldn't want one of those things smacking me in the head after a hard pothole at 70mph.

As for a 3-cell, I'd bet on it fitting. The clip positioning just may be towards the front of the lights. Oh, and in case your wondering there are two mounting holes, I arranged it to where the clip is on the back side of the bolt.

I was going to mention something about the security. When they say it holds your maglite securely, they ain't kidding. It "Snaps and Locks" into place. I thought they were for a c-cell light originally. When that light is clipped up in there, I honestly don't think It would fall. Ever. It may slide out if you hit a guy head on at like 75mph, but I think you would have bigger problems in that case. To put it simply, I would completely trust them. This weekend we are going camping so I will try it out on some rough roads and post results.

Awesome, if there's one thing the 4runner lacks, it's storage compartments. This seems like a great way to store the light-stick.

Yeah i originally planned to place it behind the seats. But I figured up there would be better because I can grab it easier. Plus there was no handle there, so its no loss.

Tofer- that'd be awesome! Especially after I finish my $8 paintjob. Let me know if your down this way.

Yeah, I'd hate for that thing to come down on my head. You should have mounted it on top of the passenger side...hahaha

It's generally not a good idea to mount hard objects on the A pillars or around the windshield area unless you want your skull cracked open in a wreck.

This is why rollbars have padding

That's a NICE install....you may just want to get yourself a patent on that design...

But for my simpler "install", I just shove 'er between my seat and center console, and I'm golden.

Where you put it is not too bad, but I have had bad luck with the Maglite mounts cracking. I like using Quickfist clamps for things like maglites, much more secure in my opinion...

Hey- that looks better than those plastic mounts. When mine break, I think I'll replace them with those.
