Im looking at a truck with a detriot front and a full spool rear. I know the spool cuts turning and adds wear, right? Also the spool sucks to drive in snow/ice, right? The front, since its locked will it cut turning as well, or only in 4wd? How bad will these effect a DD? If I buy the spool will probbally be replaced with an ARB as soon as funds allow (2 monthes), but what about the front?

The only thing ive ever driven with lockers of any kind is a Rhino. Theres no PS, and its a PIA to turn with the front locked. The rear is spooled, and the turning kinda sucks.

 

I say lockers front and rear, if you drive it on a regular basis. Should go around corners just fine then.

 

if u got manual hubs up front it shouldn't effect the front at all when the hubs are unlocked...im pretty sure, not positive though.

 

The spool will affect your turn radius, and wear your tires all the time.

The locked front will only affect your driving when you are in 4wd with the hubs locked. In slippery/icy conditions, it may mess with you some in 2wd hubs locked.

If your hubs are unlocked, it will not affect your driving at all.

The spool is a great tool for an offroad only truck, but somewhat sucks for a truck that sees only road time. however, if the deal is good, go for it.

Lockers in icy conditions can be very interesting sometimes, kinda has a mind of it own until you learn to coast corners. I just swap out 3rds for winter time that are open to make thing a little easier.

yeah if you just sold your solid axle 82 for a yota with ac MAKE SURE IT HAS ICE COLD AC!!!! you gave up what could be a good wheeler so make sure you get something you really want... theres nice ones out there.

my dd has a/c.. but it doesnt blow cold... im gonna go grab some of that freeze stuff to do my mothers jag so ill pop a can in the runner..
