Exclamation I need to know if this will hold!!!! or else my truck will never get to drive again!!

22re
so i was changing my thermostat, when taking out the two bolts one of them snapped in half. so i was kinda mad, so i just drilled a hole in it, used my reverse drill bits to try to get it out, well it wouldn't budge and the reverse drill bit ended up snapping, now im starting to get mad, well i got the bit out, and i have to drill out the whole thing, so i did, retapped it, got new bolts, started bolting them in, the retapped side strips, on the housing, not the bolt, now im mad. so i retap it again same size thinking there was just some metal shavings or whatever, so then i put em back in again, they go in nice, ok then strip again, i wasnt even turning it that hard!

so as of now, the threads jump and i have some high heat silicone surrounding the thermostat, with one bolt all the way in tight, and one in there semi-tight like as tight as i can get it before the threads jump.

DO YOU think it will be ok like that?!?!?!?

any suggestions????????

like im about to throw my truck in a lake. im so mad at it.

The cooling system is pressurized. I think around 14 PSI?

It might cause the part that is semi-tight to leak, because the silicone might not hold the pressure.

I would recommend getting new bolts, and a tap size to match. (Be precise!!)

Better safe then sorry, especially if you lose coolant while driving, then overheat, then blow a HG, then swap in a 3.4. It could get costly, with emphasis on could.

should i go with a bigger tap size and bolt?

because i was precise with the tap size i used and with the bolt, pitch and size were exactly the same. this is rediculous.

or instead of a 3.4, ill just get another 22re block and swap it.

Gotta use anti seize when steel bolts go into aluminum, said that earlier too. I also learn the hardway, so nothing personal.

X2 on pressurized system, I'd bet it wont hold. Probably going to need to replace the lower half of intake.

IIRC, the 22RE is an aluminum head, so it WILL be easy to mess up. Use a bolt with greater pitch, same with the tap.

EDIT: Should have refreshed before I posted.

theres only one way to find outl ol!

if it doesnt hold, you dont need a new block. just the lower half of the intake like muddpig said.

well i went the next size up on the tap size 9mm same pitch 1.25

it got dark so i stopped working, so im gonna try to find some to get a 9mm1.25 bolt. got a busy weekend of hunter's safety course....

but it seemed like the 9mm tap got a lot more thread cut on there. so this may work.

Darkness is no excuse for us yotatech'ers, we work 364 days of the year, 23/7.

(cat nap, and break time account for the days and hours)

92 22re similar issue

I was changing my thermostat and realized one bolt was already stripped so it was a different size and no threads . Pulled it out went up one size ,bit broke off some . So I started to go up one more size and I think the metal changes as you get closer to the intake coolant channel and I couldn’t go deep enough to add the repair piece. Now I have a hole that is M10 . So the previous owner had been using the truck with one good bolt and essentially a dial with a bead of sealant . Any ideas for me cause I don’t think his idea will work for me after making the hole bigger
