How often do people offer to buy your Toyota pickup? :)

I've just got a no frills '92 2wd with a cassette deck and vinyl seats. We're talking bare bones with no mods or things to make people turn their head. The body is pretty fair with a couple dents and some scratches, but not bad looking for a 20+ year old truck.

In the year that I've owned it, I've had 3 people offer to buy my truck. 2 people left a note on the windshield asking to call them if I'd be willing to sell, and one guy stopped to talk to me at the gas station while I was filling up and said he'd be interested in buying my truck.

I've owned around 10 vehicles, some of them certainly newer and nicer looking vehicles than this, and I've never had someone stop and ask if they could buy it.

It's weird. This is my first Toyota, and my first truck. I wasn't sure if it was a truck thing, a Toyota thing, or more than likely.. a Toyota truck specific phenomenon.

It happens once in a while. I usually lead 'em on a little bit. Until they offer 1000 or 800. Nope, thanks. Was thinking 10k. Bye! More often I get somebody thinking they know the truck.

Ha!! It isn't worth 10k, except to me. Stone reliable and the only rig I've got.

Got Flashed

Driving on 5Fwy near in Encinitas, driver of sedan alongside me scribbled on letter size paper and flashed it on his driver size window, "Wanna sell the 4Runner?" Too bad we did not have camera handy. That would have beem classic.

It seems like the more gas go's up the more offers I get. Especially since mine is a 2wd EFI Auto.

I get an offer about once a week from different guys at school... Usually around $2,500-$3,500, but the other day I got offered a MINT 97 Subaru Impreza Outback (with new lowered coilovers & low miles.. he paid $4,200) + $1000 cash and I had to turn it down... I love my 4Runner too much to let it go. After turning down an offer like that my rig better be thankful and keep on tickin'!

I lived in Gambia, West Africa for a year and drove a company 1996 Hilux there. I got about an offer a month when I was there, including one very persistent hardware store owner who tried bargaining for it every time I was at his shop.

I haven't gotten any offers for my truck yet, mainly because it's a 2wd and I live in Alaska. I used to have one of those funny-looking old Tercel wagons, and lots of people asked to buy it. It's hard to believe, since it was a 1984, very plain, and slow even by 1984 standards. Still, those Tercels are indestructible and remain popular in Alaska. They're the Toyota pickup of compact cars.

I've had one offer, at a set of lights from a fella on a motorcycle. Being that I park it in the garage, it doesn't get much exposure.

I have a multi-colored stock '84 PU and I've received three unsolicited offers in the five years I've owned it and many saying "man, i wish I could find a truck like that cuz I know you ain't selling it".

Of course, I've had my wife offer to sell it a few times....

nobody has ever offered to buy my 4runner, especially with the cloud of white smoke i leave at every intersection, but i have thought about paying someone to take this piece of junk off my hands.

When mine was sitting for months with the head gasket blown, I was getting an offer a month. I've had a few ppl ask since it's been running, mostly Hispanic guys~

I just can't get the thought of an all aluminum V8 out of my mind.....one day.....

I get a lot of people wanting to talk about my 81 at gas stations and parking lots, but none of em have tried to buy it off me. They just always have a story to tell about a first gen they had or a friend's.

I bought my 91 4Runner with the 3.0, my first Toyota ever, and I love it. Yea, it needs TLC but this thing is really awesome. Before this, I have had Chevy's, Pontiacs and Fords. I have been converted.
