Thats what im thinking. But this engine is completely new to me, i'm not sure as to how much $$ itll take to get it running again. Wish it was a 22re.
But then again, the only reason i found it was because im lookin for 4.88 gears. Went to look at it and sure enough G144 was the gear code. I dont know, I'm still thinkin, have till this weekend.

Buy it! $400 is a great price. like justin 4runner said, you can get motor for about $1000 bucks or so. Or you can do like me and spend about the same amount and swap in a chevy 350! But seriously I spent $800 for my runner its a 91 with 200,000 miles. It ran great but then I blew a head gasket. I researched a new motor, a totally rebuilt motor with a warranty ran about $2500, just put it in and go another 200,000+. For $3000 you could have an awesome rig that will last years!

Hate to suggest it but you could part it out as well and get your gears plus some cash

Oh Wow. Now I don't think I got such a good deal on my '95 that i bought Sunday for $1250. I might get by without a new engine though.

So is it your first 4-runner? Are you asking how the back gate window goes down? Turn the key like counter-clockwise like your unlocking it but hold it there and the window should go down. After it is all the way down you can reach in and unlock the tailgate and then pull the handle.

You got a steal.

Paid $4K for my 89 SR5 4Runner 3.0L V6 5 spd. w/136K miles in 2004. 50K miles later the engine seized (2/11). Gonna swap in a 3.4L, considering getting a plug and play from toyonlyswaps.com. Probably cost me what I paid for it to replace the engine, but my love for the first gen exceeds my common sense.

just bought my 85 runner for $1600. 22re, 138k miles, no reverse, needs valve adjust. it was rolled and the guy chopped the roof of and welded a new one on. i saw this 4runner on CL so i put my 79 yota up, sold it a day or two later and pick up the runner. im stoked! just picked up a tranny/tcase, performace clutch and a bunch of stuff for 200 bucks! i loved my 79 but ive always wanted a 4runner

sold for $1600

bought for $1600 the same day.

85 4runner

Just took delivery of a white on white all plastic interior, manual roll up windows, automatic 1985 4runner. It has 79K orig miles bought from the orig owner always parked in the garage, not a hint of rust anywhere, completely factory stock, it could be the nicest 85 runner in the world. Paid 5400. I am super stoked!!!!!

89 SR5, 5speed 3.0 for $1,000. Ran, Rust, needed work. Looked a lot like the one Corax bought. HG blew shortly after purchase and is now waiting for the money for a 3.4 swap.

Two 1st gen 4runners (1 month apart) in south NJ

Bought a rough (definitely been off road and messed with cosmetically) but no real rust '86 4runner, 22re, 5sp, manual hubs, 197k, 33'sx12.5, 3" body lift for $1500 + new clutch....motor runs like a top--perfect!! tranny is a bit loud, but shifts fine.

Bought a clean (not banged up like the other, also in tact cosmetically) but rusty--all wheelwells and driver floor board rot, '88 4runner, 22re, 5sp, manual hubs, 225k, nice kuhmo 31's x 10.5, 2 spares w/ rims, soft top, 2 extra doors --$800. Needs timing chain kit job.

dropped my camera the other day, so unfortunately, no pics..

The lot wanted $12,999 the day I found her back in 2004. Talked them down to $10,000 even. Immediately got her re-financed through my credit union so total cost ended up being $8,500 for my once was cherry 95' SR5 4runner 3.0 auto 4.56 gears all black and beautiful, now black and beat, lol! The 86' I got for $1,500 and then put in a jasper engine costing me around $4,800. The one thing I have learned about us yota folk, don't matter what we have, we love our toys and will almost dump any amount of money into them!
