Paid $6500 for my 1987 4Runner 22RE/5-Speed/SR5 back in 1992 and had 113,000 on her. The fan belt broke ON THE WAY HOME from the dealership - and I had to have it towed home! How's that for good luck? It was a sign of things to come as I ended up spending like $10K on it over the years until the motor went out a second time. Been parked since 2001 waiting for a motor transplant and some other TLC.

My 99 Tacoma OTOH has been 100% reliable with only a single $2500 Tranny/Transfer case/Clutch job last year at 200K Miles. Night and day - but what do you expect from a heavily modded 22RE that always ran lean and was driven with a lead foot? The 5VZ-FE is one hell of a motor !!!

Bought my 95' in 07 for $5,500 bone stock only 106k miles. I got hit last year and the insurance company totaled it and cut me a check for $5000. I then bought it back for $800 and rebuilt the front end buying the parts off ebay for about $500. So now in 2010 it's back on the road and running like a champ she's pretty much paid for itself thanks to some jerk in a nova.

$750 + $200 for head gasket and timing chain on 91 22r PU.
I absolutely love people not willing to do a little labor for a great truck...

I'll be picking up a 2001 4Runner Limited 4x4 with 99k and power everything ON MONDAY. All 100k maintenance has been done to include the timing belt! I'm out $9500, but my bank valued it a little high (I think) at $13,500. How do you guys think I did?

This weekend is going to creep by...

2001 for $9500? i got a 2000 limited 4x4 with all the options except the e-locker for that price, 4 years ago.

Prices have dropped a fair amount since then, like $7k or less now days depending on where you live. Is that from a dealer? if so that explains it.

Before the hazing begins... I paid an average price for my location by means of my research and knowledge of these 4Runners. There are a few other 3rd gens around me going for around $6k with no less than 180k and are not even close to being in as good shape as this one. I'm not saying you are wrong, but I feel comfortable with the purchase price considering I plan to see this thing turn 300k!

You didn't get robbed if it is in mint condition by any means, i just personally don't care about milage on these since supercharging my 130k mile 4runner 3 years ago and beating the living heck out of it and it still driving like new.

You will truly enjoy your new 4runner, thats for sure.

$1700 Canadian dollars bought me a 1990 4Runner with a strong 3VZE at 170k (miles), new transmission around 30k ago, two near new sets of tires (31x10.5" all terrains and new winters), factory 4.56's and a "bit" of rust.

Next spring I'm planning on installing a set of 33x10.5's, a budbuilt crossmember and having a friend weld in some new sheet metal, then I'll just continue driving the hell out of it until it explodes.
