How to get a screw out?
So i pulled my starter out for the 3rd time since i replaced the contacts. i was still gettig the clicking and crap and finally i found out why my starter contact kept coming of the plate inside the starter. Mostly because of the way a screw was designed( it is actually rectangular :doh
. anyhow i put it everything back together and the one screw that i have to attach the transmission dipstick mount to the engine block snaps off half in the head and half in my socket. so basically i need to get that screw out. Especially beacuse it is now zip tied to the abs system right next to my headers. anyone know how or have any ideas. How do screw outs work or will they even work if the screw is so tightly in the block.

You could always go the way of an EZ out, assuming that the broken bolt is visible.. If you go to Sears, it is called a Screw Extractor. Find one that is an appropriate size, and see what size drill bit is reccomended for use with it. Drill the bolt in about half way, and then put the EZ out (screw extractor) in a tap wrench. You should be able to take it out from there, but not always. I have a 70% success ratio usually. Even if this works, check to make sure that the thread inside the mount are still good. If the bolt is in the block, this is about your only choice, you can't really drill it through, and put a nut on the other side or something like that. Like I said, this method works ok, I broke a few bolts off the the engine blocks on dirtbikes, and quads, and this method in conjuction with a lot of swearing, kicking, and yelling has always worked when I needed it to. I can only count a few times it hasnt, and never on the block itself(probably I am a little more determined when this is the case. Anywho, good luck, if you were a little closer, I'd offer to help, believe me, I have a ton of experience in fixing my own mistakes.

If your gonna have to drill it out get a "left handed" drill bit. Basically you run the drill in reverse and you might just get lucky and it will grap the bolt and spin it out. Works like a charm, if it doesn't grab it then you still have the drilled hole for the easy out. I have yet to try the screw exctractors I see in the Sears catalog.

Picture? Sometimes, and I mean very few times... you can take a pick and just unscrew it. It depends on how tight it is in there and why it broke off in the first place. The head is what creates the tension on the threads, when the head is broken off, sometimes you're able to do the above method because there is no longer tension.
Can you weld something on there and then take it off? Can you blow it out with a torch? Can you cut a groove in the top and use a screwdriver? I'm just brainstorming here.

sorry no picture at this time. I can barely get a wrench with 16 inchs of extension in there straight. Its mostly because of my wheel well. But no screw is protruding out at all. The screw broke inside the hole. I was being retarded and forced the screw in mostly because this was the 3rd time i took out my starter and i had the same problems before and i was getting frustrated that the screw always holds me up 15- 30 mins. So its in there pretty well. i cant torch it, or weld it but maybe able to cut a slit but its well in there. but i have come up with some good ideas from you guys so far. Thanks
