Horse power and torque for towing

Hi,

I am considering a Toyota Sequoia as a tow vehicle for a 21ft travel trailer. In 2004 the 4.7l engine had 240 hp and 315 lb/ft torque. In 2005, the hp is 282, but torque remained at 315 lb/ft.

Would the difference in hp make any difference considering the torque is the same? Any Sequoia owners out there who have driven both or towed with both?

Thanks!

The tq was actually bumped to 325 in the 05's. But with the new std hp/tq measuring system its only 273/314. There is no way to tell what the 04 would have been on the new system, but I can imagine the numbers would be lower. As all hp/tq numbers dropped for toyotas, from what I have seen.

The difference isnt much, and the rpm for peak tq is the same. The rpm for peak hp is higher, so I would imagine that your wont notice a huge difference. Thou I would guess on straight cruising you would get better mpg on the newer motor, but thats just a guess. Partially due to the 5spd being introduced with the hp increase.

Personally i would get one of the newer ones with the 5spd auto. That extra gear between 1st and OD will be nice with a trailer in tow. Towing capacities are unchanged.
