dual row chains were 81-82. 83-84 was basically the same engine but single row. This is assuming it wasn't converted over to a dual row setup.

And no word of a lie, I just posted a link in another thread that tells you how to identify these engines as well. As well as countless other times.

couldnt you also swap a 20r head onto a 84+ 22r to make it a dual row?

the chances of that are slim, but it still could be possible your rig has a 20r head

20r head swap has really nothing to do with the dual row I don't think.

Eeek. I thought when you swapped the 20r head you converted to dual row to accomodate for the 20r head sprocket? no?

but besides that, i have no idea what year your engine is...sorry

The sprocket actually isn't a part of the head, but the cam. When you switch to a 20r head you use the 22r cam. I might have to look this one up, the standard is to switch, but not sure if you really have to or not.

ahhh. Makes sense xxxtreme...

I thought you swapped everything over from the 20r, even the camshaft.

as long as yours has a dual row timing chain then that should be the correct year range.
