I did a bunch of searches on here and yotatech and looks like people are clearing their CEL light by pulling the EFI fuse in the engine bay.

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, but I just tried to clear mine tonight because I got a p0136 tonight(bank 1 sensor 2 oxygen sensor according to my FSM).

What I did was pull out the EFI fuse with the truck completely off, and then went into the truck and turn the ignition to the on position with the motor still off(never actually engaged the starter), and let it sit in the On position for like 20 seconds. I then put it back to the off positin and pulled out the key, and put the fuse back in.... then put the key back to the on position, the CEL light was back on even before starting the truck, and remained on when I started it. I haven't replaced my 02 sensor yet, but I'm just trying to clear it to see if it comes back on when I start the motor(might just be staying on because the 02 really is dead).

Is this the right way to reset the CEL, or is there more to it than that?

Got any idea how long you have to leave it off for before it resets the ECU?

It's snowing out now here and 12:45 PM... not ideal working conditions, but I'm a stubborn bastard and want to at least troubleshoot this a little bit before I go to bed or I'll be thinking about it while I sleep. Heh.

 

I usually reset my ECU by just pulling the 15-amp EFI fuse under the hood for about 1 minute; I don't have to mess around with the ignition or anything.


My guess is the O2 sensor is still making your ECU throw the code. Time to call up Toyota of Dallas (www.trdparts4u.com)...
