extreme cold problem

OK 84 Toyota pickup weber 32/36. Every time it gets in the teens....the truck cranks and runs super rich!...black smoke gas dripping out of tail pipe...overflow running into charcoal cannister and onto the ground. Warmer weather runs like a top. What the heck is freezing up??

Off the top of my head .

The needle valve is so stiff the float is unable to push it closed on the real cold days gets warm it works fine.

If your pushing gas out the charcoal canister vent hose line on wrong or the pressure in the fuel tank is so great it pushes out liquid the easiest path

Like wyoming9 mentioned. I see several return lines clogged as well. You cand check with a low pressure air hose. I dont use high pressure so as not to compress the clog. I fill the line with PB Blaster and let soak a few days and clear with an air hose.

Thanks for all the replies! Just got home from skiing in west Virginia. Pretty mild day here at home, truck fired right up. The only time I leak from canister is when it misfires and dumb fuel on those extreme Cold days. That's the only reason I don't think I have any clogs or lines clogged up. Is it possible the stiff needle valve could cause it to dump fuel and back up in canister?

Needle valve in the carb is sticking. Time to overhaul it.

That's crazy. Weber only has about 800 miles on it.

Colder then normal temperatures can do strange things to almost any material.

The tolerance in the carb and the needle valve could be off just enough in the very cold to allow it to stay open.

Figure out why and fix it or just don`t drive in cold temperatures or just live with it and hope it does not catch fire.

I'm not... but not having one would only cause trouble in the cold?

You say this Carb is new only a few miles.

Have you said anything about this problem to who you bought it from??

A new part may not fix the problem You need to know the cause .

The stock toyota mechanical fuel pump puts out more pressure than the weber is supposed to run.And the cold probably makes the too much pressure even worse.

I could see the fuel pressure being at the upper limits and with the cold being able to push past the needle valve.

That makes a lot of sense....I will look into that. Is there a certain brand or type of regulator you would recommend?
